The Old Course at Siam Country Club is one of Thailand's most well-known golf courses. It was the country's first privately owned golf course when it opened in 1971. In 2006-2007, the Old Course was closed for a comprehensive refurbishment by Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley of the United States. The original hole layout was mostly preserved, while the entire course was updated and brought up to international championship standards.
Since its reopening in 2007, the golf course has hosted a number of international competitions, notably the Honda LPGA Classic, which has been held annually since 2010. The course, as expected, is meticulously maintained and kept in good playing shape all year.
Siam Country Club's Old Course is nestled in the low hills just a few kilometers from Pattaya and boasts an abundance of mature trees, bushes, and plants. The course's many fruit trees offer the sensation of being in an orchard, especially when they're in season. Siam Country Club is known for its abundance of 'nature' in the shape of sculptured bushes and hedges.
Many of the golf holes run by a number of lakes and strategically placed creeks on the course's out and back layout. To get around the larger fairway bunker complexes, you'll need to drive long and straight. Large trees line each fairway at Siam Country Club, punishing left or right shots. The greens at Siam Country Club Old Course are huge, roll quickly, are well-kept, and have a lot of undulation. To read properly, the frequent breaks necessitate the assistance of an expert caddie.
As you approach the 9th fairway, a gigantic golden Buddha stands guard over the green. The course, which is littered with bunkers and water hazards, also features several additional exciting holes, particularly the last four. Together, the 15th through 18th holes may be the best finishing holes on any Pattaya golf course. If you're having a good day and scoring well, be cautious since these four holes have the potential to pull you back down to earth and destroy a solid score. The par-5 final hole, in particular, is enticing to try to reach in two. However, many a golfer has walked away with a bogie or worse as the hole grows increasingly difficult as you get closer to the green.
The clubhouse is still the original from the 1970s, albeit it has been updated on the interior. It has a great view of the course, but is frequently infested by fruit flies. If you're eating a meal or a beer after the round, sit inside. The driving range is tucked away and difficult to find. Caddies and carts are parked in a particularly filthy location beneath the clubhouse. It's preferable to arrive at the course warmed up and go directly to the first tee.
The Old Course at the Siam Country Club is one of Pattaya's greatest. They share first place with the other Siam County Club Courses (Plantation and Waterside).
