Mr Pisit and Mrs Nongnooch Tansacha purchased 1,500 rai (about 600 acres) of rolling hills and valleys in Najomtien, Sattahip, Pattaya in Chonburi Province between Pattaya and Sattahip near the 163 kilometer marker on Sukhumvit road in Najomtien, Sattahip, Pattaya in 1954. Mangoes, oranges, and coconuts, as well as a variety of other indigenous fruits, were expected to be planted on the newly purchased site.
Mrs Nongnooch was inspired by the beauty of world-renowned gardens while traveling abroad and wanted to transform the fruit orchard into a tropical garden with decorative flowers and plants. The park was eventually transformed into a tourist destination with lodging, a swimming pool, restaurants, and banquet and lecture facilities for the comfort of visitors.
Nongnooch Garden first opened to the public in 1980, and a daily Thai cultural entertainment and elephant show within the theater were added to the garden. Three years later, her son, Mr Kampon Tansacha, took over the garden management, and it is now one of Thailand's most popular attractions as well as a world botanical center, operating under the theme "A garden for all people of the world."
Nongnooch Garden is now a very popular tourist attraction, with approximately 1,700 rai of land inviting visitors from all over the world. Every day, around 5,000 people visit the park, which has been named one of the top 10 most beautiful gardens in the world.
