The Plantation Course at Siam Country Club is a fantastic golf course. The Pattaya course, which hosted the 2009 US LGPA and the 2015 Thailand Open, is as challenging as any in Thailand. Designers Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley wasted no expense.
This 27-hole course winds across rolling terrain with vistas of Pattaya Beach and Laem Chabang Port in the distance. The property's geological and natural features include steep ravines bisecting its Paspalum fairways and mature trees complemented by landscape ground cover and vegetation, which were once a tapioca and pineapple plantation. The Plantation Course also has substantial elevation changes, which provide stunning views of the Gulf of Thailand, which is only 11 kilometers away.
One challenging hole follows another on the course. Every course has long carries, blind shots, elevated greens, undulating fairways and greens, massive high-lipped bunkers, and shaved fringes to test all golfers. The Siam Country Club Plantation Course is one of Thailand's longest golf courses, measuring 7,404 or 7,495 yards from the tips, depending on which of the three nines is played.
Asia's first triple green may be found on two nines, the 3,759-yard par-36 Tapioca and the 3,645-yard par-36 Pineapple. The Tapioca's seventh hole and the Pineapple's fourth and ninth holes both play to a single green that measures over 20,000 square feet (1,916 square meters) and serves as a unique focal point at this Pattaya golf course. The green's undulating putting surface is contiguous, with wide swales dividing it into three distinct portions. The Tapioca's seventh hole is a 178-yard par-3, while the Pineapple's fourth and ninth holes are long par-4s of 490 and 469 yards, respectively.
The Sugar Cane Course is the third nine of the Siam Country Club, and it runs to the left of the driving range and staging area. The par-36, 3,736-yard layout, which includes the magnificent fifth, is considered the greatest of the three nines. The Plantation Course's flagship hole is a par-5 with over 28 bunkers that plays long and uphill with a split fairway. The right side fairway is in play, but it requires a lengthy and difficult carry to have any hope of reaching the green in regulation. To take advantage of the much easier approach shot and a strong chance at par, hit to the left fairway.
For golfers who want to 'try-out' the course before playing, there is a grass driving range with throwing area, sand bunker, and huge practice putting greens. On this up-and-down mountainous stretch, riding carts are required. Except for the aforementioned two-fairway Sugar Cane fifth hole, carts are restricted to the cart route exclusively. This is true for all golfers, including disabled players.
The stunning contemporary styled clubhouse, which features a wonderful restaurant and lounge area with views of both the triple green and Pattaya City, is a great spot to reflect on your day and plan your next round!
