After a comprehensive makeover by new owners, Mountain Shadow Golf Club, originally the Natural Park Hill Golf Club, reopened in 2004. Mountain Shadow, created by Ronald Fream and located midway between Bangkok and Pattaya, is a stunning course. It was built on the site of a former mango plantation, and each hole is surrounded by gorgeous flowers and trees.
The fairways and greens are in generally good shape. The relatively short 18-hole course is perfectly suited for golfers of all levels, with water hazards, doglegs, and four island greens.
Greens move quickly and have a lot of undulations, thus reading the correct line is crucial. It's difficult to recover from bad tee shots because of the narrow palm tree-lined fairways. The relatively vast distance between the tees and the fairways adds to the challenge. Shorter tee shots are more likely to end up in the difficult-to-hit semi rough.
The 6th and 14th holes are both difficult par-5s. Greens are tucked behind massive water hazards on the two doglegs. To prevent a watery penalty, careful approach shots are essential.
There is a decent Thai restaurant in the clubhouse that serves a broad variety of dishes at moderate pricing, as well as a pro shop in the lobby and plenty of changing rooms for tourists.
