Because the fishing here can be slow at times, bring a bottle or two of bait flavoring with you to help your chances. They claim to have Mekong huge catfish weighing up to 60 kilograms; however, a friend has seen one weighing approximately 40 kilograms brought out, so if you're seeking one, I'd recommend using 30+ pound line. Because the fish tend to congregate on the far bank, casting distances of roughly 40 meters are required to reach them. Threading some bread onto your hook and letting it float on the surface works well here; the crew frequently throws bread in for the fish.
